There are some major hurdles that the transport industry must overcome quickly if it's to survive.
Driver Shortages
There is already a significant shortage of professional HGV drivers in the UK, estimated by the RHA and FTA to be around 45,000 at present and the gap is growing.
Unfortunately, it could get worse very soon. The uncertainty of Brexit, wages and working conditions improving across Europe, the pound weakening against the Euro and the 2019 Driver CPC expiration date could all increase the driver shortage here in the UK.
The good news, though, is that demand for drivers is actually going up, thanks to the growing demand for home delivery services.
Our industry is growing and we simply aren't keeping up.
The increased demand will make finding professional drivers and encouraging new people into the industry even more important for us all.
How is NRL part of the solution? Our first step has been addressing driver recruitment practices, looking to reduce the financial cost and time it takes to find qualified drivers in the marketplace.
We now have over 1,000 drivers looking for permeant work across the UK and 50 drivers looking to enter industry – enquire about accessing our database here.
By creating a single platform for professional drivers and employers to find one another, with the saying “united we stand, divided we fall” firmly at the heart of our mission. We aim to bring the industry together as a team, advertising and recruiting for one another. Creating new pathways to enter industry for future drivers is a long term vision of success for the NRL.
